PART IV: MOBILE TECHNOLOGY

In the final part of this book, we shift gears from the business side of mobility and look at mobile technology.

Most of the chapters in this part contain to-the-point explanations of some aspect of mobile technology. We will look at telephony standards and protocols, at mobile operating systems, at the technology behind different kinds of mobile apps such as native apps, web apps and hybrid apps, at mobile middleware, push based messaging systems, enterprise mobility frameworks and mobile device management (MDM) systems. There is also a complete chapter devoted to some of the unique non-functional characteristics of mobile applications such as those dealing with screen sizes, resolution, orientation, battery life, network etc.

This section will especially be useful for software architects, mobile solution architects, technical managers, CTOs or indeed anyone who is interested in getting a fairly comprehensive understanding of mobile technology. Mobile testers and quality analysts should find the last chapter on non-functional requirements particularly useful.

You may go through the different chapters in this section either serially or you may jump straight to a chapter of interest. In that sense, this section is also organized as an easy reference to different aspects of mobile technology.
